What is LOVE?
In the Bahá’í Writings it says, “The real and great love is the love of God. That is holy above the imaginations and thoughts of men.” As I grew older, my love and reverence for God heightened as the fear of God and the love of God (and for God) was instilled in me at a very young age.
The son of the Prophet Founder of the Bahá’í Faith,`Abdu’l-Bahá, said “The spiritual love of God maketh man pure and holy and clotheth him with the garment of virtue and purity. And when man attacheth his heart wholly to God and becometh related to the Blessed Perfection, the divine bounty will dawn. This love is not physical, nay, rather, it is absolutely spiritual.” It is via these teachings of my Faith that I truly began to understand that there is no greater love than the love of God and that it transcends all forms of love. Through my love and unwavering Faith of God, I also learnt how to give love and receive love in return. I constantly strived to reflect the attributes of God and to love everyone around me.
The second greatest form of love I have ever received is the love from my beloved parents. Their sacrificial and unconditional love ever since I was brought to this world always pushed me to be the best version of myself and served as a constant reminder to love others around me as well. They also constantly served as a true example on how a couple should love one another even when they feel like pulling each other’s hair at times 🤣 They have always served as testaments to one of my favourite quotes on love by `Abdu’l-Bahá which states that “Love lights a flame in that heart that is cold.” Their love for each other constantly inspired me to find my one true love and it still does to this very day ☺️
Although I am a differently-abled person who is sometimes caught up in the materialistic world and the media’s portrayal of romantic love, I do believe that I will indeed find love and start a family just like everyone else. The person I find will understand the true meaning of love and what it means to love God first above everything else. I visualise a form of love with my future life partner to be as how `Abdu’l-Bahá describes it in one of his talks in London – “The love which exists between the hearts of believers is prompted by the ideal of the unity of spirits. This love is attained through the knowledge of God, so that men see the Divine Love reflected in the heart. Each sees in the other the Beauty of God reflected in the soul, and finding this point of similarity, they are attracted to one another in love. This love will make all men the waves of one sea, this love will make them all the stars of one heaven and the fruits of one tree. This love will bring the realization of true accord, the foundation of real unity.” 😊
